"I decided to become a musician because I believe it to be the most effective way to make peace in the world; these days there are so many ugly things which need to be contrasted by the beauty that we all have inside us. That beauty can be transmitted through the enchantment of music."

 

BACKGROUND

 

Ever since childhood, Véronique has loved and admired the sound of the harp. Her goal now, as a professional harpist, is to share the passion and knowledge gained from years of extensive work and practice on the instrument. As a recent graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Music and the University of Western Ontario with a specialization in performance, she is currently performing orchestral, solo, and private concerts and expanding her teaching studio. Véronique has ample experience playing with university and community orchestras, and playing weddings and other events in the GTA and further. She is also very interested in early childhood education of music, and was introduced to this concept in August 2011 when she started working at Klaudia’s Music School in Oakville and sharing her passion for the harp with children as young as three years old.

 

EDUCATION

 

Motivated by a passion for harp, Véronique Drozdz started playing the harp at the age of nine, and later moved on to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she won several annual scholarships. She went on to major in harp at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, where she was a finalist for the concerto competition, for which she performed Handel's Concerto in B-Flat Major. She finished top of the class, and received the Lian Thomson Award of Music. A finalist in the Young Artist's Harp Competition in Georgia, USA, (2010), and cited in the international harp magazine Harp Column, Véronique has Bachelor of Music degree in Performance from the eminent University of Toronto, under the tutelage of the world-renowned harpist Judy Loman, as well as a Master's from the University of Western Ontario, where she was principal harp with the orchestra. Having performed regularly with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, GamUT Contemporary Music Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Symphony, Véronique has also played with several community orchestras and is available for weddings, receptions, and various social functions. Véronique has also had the pleasure of performing at the opening of THEMUSEUM in Kitchener, a project which was sponsored by the ambassadors of the Government of Ontario, producing a recording featured in the Toronto International Film Festival, and many more! Other notable performances include Debussy’s Nuages, Borodin’s Symphony No. 2 and Baczewicz’s Trio for Flute, Percussion, and Harp. During her studies, Véronique frequently participated in many masterclasses with esteemed harpists, such as Mariko Anraku, Sébastien Lipman, and Alice Giles. She also dynamically partakes in many diverse ensembles; for instance: jazz, contemporary music, klezmer, Latin American Percussion, and adores collaborating with emerging contemporary composers.

Currently located in Paris, France, Véronique has a growing studio of harp students in Paris and its surroundings.
